The Haas Social Impact Fund
The Haas Social Impact Fund (formerly Haas for Students) was founded in 2004 by Haas students interested in social sector careers. HSIF provides grants to first-year, full-time MBA students who accept summer internships in the social sector. These grants allow students to put their Haas MBA to use for organizations that are doing important work in communities around the world but cannot offer to pay a "typical" MBA salary.

In 2016 the goal of the fundraising efforts was to increase participation as funds are raised from fellow First Year Full-Time MBAs. The Fund ultimately issued $19,800 in awards to eight FT MBA students. 74% of the funds came from student donations and the support provided ranged from $1,500 to $4,800.
The organizations where the recipients interned represent a range of sizes, sectors, and geographies and include both non-profits and for-profit social enterprises:

HSIF funding comes primarily from Haas first year MBAs, who typically donate one day of their summer internship salary to the fund to demonstrate Haas’ commitment to supporting non-profit/public sector endeavors. Contributions from matching corporation donations, alumni, and other donors are another integral part of HSIF.
